Ben breaks down how rugby athletes prepare their minds for competition.

Ben Healey is one of the rising flyhalfs (“quarterbacks”) of European rugby — an Irish fly-half now playing professionally for Scotland. But what fascinated me most about Ben is the way he thinks about pressure. Early in his career he believed success came from doing more work than anyone else — more training, more preparation, more grind. Over time he realized something different: performance is about timing. Ben shares how visualization became one of his most powerful tools. Instead of grinding himself down during the week, he spends time mentally rehearsing the game — stepping into future moments before they happen so that when the pressure arrives, it already feels familiar. We also discuss the invisible side of sport: team connection, group energy, and the mysterious “vibe” that can make a team feel unstoppable. This episode is about the psychology of performance — and how the best athletes learn to balance preparation, recovery, and flow.

I spend a lot of time with my nose in books. But my favorite place to be is outside: tending to my bees, planting native trees, worm farming, experimenting with electroculture, saving dragonflies, composting, dancing, playing, being.

I sincerely hope your list is at least as long as mine.
