Your body is a brain.

Especially in the U.S., we've been conditioned to believe that the brain and body are separate entities that are often at odds with one another.

I call bullsh*t.

When you understand the call-and-response between neuroscience and physiology, you can live in harmony—with yourself, with others, and with the world around you.

Founder of Musical Breathwork

You're better and faster

than you think.

Every athlete and artist I've ever met wants to move or create better and faster today than they did yesterday.

So they train their body or challenge their mind in hopes of unlocking some new gear that'll finally get them to the proverbial (or actual) champion's podium.

I have such good news for you, my friend: You're already moving and creating at 268 miles an hour—the literal speed of your nervous system.

It's what you do with that speed that matters.

Through my experiences as a D1 golfer and classically trained singer, I've learned how to use my brain, breath, and body—in concert—to reach higher levels of athleticism, artistry, and awareness. I started Musical Breathwork to share those learnings with others.

Brain + Breath Connection offers an introduction to the same techniques I've taught to thousands of people around the world. I'm so looking forward to teaching you, too.

I'll be with you the whole way.

Common Questions

Find answers to your questions and discover how the powerful combination of breathwork and music can transform your well-being.

Does Brain & Breath Connection include actual breathwork and fascia conditioning?

Although I offer a brief overview of my approach to breathwork and fascia conditioning, this lecture is more WHY than HOW—more SCIENCE than PRACTICE. If you're excited to get to work, you may prefer Mighty Breath (online course), Fascia Flow (online course), or Gamma-Seekers (membership).

How long is the lecture?

The lecture is a total of 90 minutes, but I've broken it into bite-size pieces to help you absorb what you're learning. There are plenty of visuals and props, too, so the time flies by!

What exactly will I learn?

Brain & Breath Connection introduces the core thesis Musical Breathwork brings to the world. You’ll discover a chronological approach to the rhythms within the brain, breath, and fascia so you can see the pattern in yourself and get excited about training!

You’ll learn how to breathe properly, why nose breathing is essential, the basics of brain waves, how our nervous system connects to the brain, what mechanoreceptors are (and why they matter), recent discoveries in neuroscience and what they means for us, the history of the fascia, how the fascia and the nervous system are connected, the importance of our feet, and so much more.

I have chronic anxiety and digestive issues, what do you recommend?

I’m so happy you’re here! Brain & Breath Connection explores chronic anxiety and how it affects our brain, breath, and body tension. You’ll see how the digestive system is affected by the stress loop, establish a different relationship to the word stress, and receive tools you can use to immediately pull your brain, breath, and body out of that response. That will turn your digestion back on.

Once you establish that connection, I’d love to train your breath. Proper breathing restores the function of the diaphragm muscle, which gently massages your digestive system all day long! By combining simple stress regulation tools with intentional breathing practices, many of my clients’ digestive issues have completely disappeared. (Mine have, too!)

If your body is holding a lot of tension from years of built-up chronic stress, we can release the tension with simple Fascia Flow technique.

Which one of your courses should I start with?

Your best starting point is Brain & Breath Connection. This lecture provides a foundational understanding of how the brain, breath, and fascia are interconnected, and when that lightbulb goes on, you’ll feel excited to train!

Brain & Breath Connection also deconstructs the stress loop and gives you immediate tools to recover your nervous system—fast. The new vocabulary you’ll learn will help you integrate the subsequent exercises like puzzle pieces into the landscape of your overall health and wellbeing.

The lecture is meaningful to anyone—regardless of your training, expertise, or medical background. It’s heady stuff (note-takers will love it!), but I present the information in an entertaining way, using models, diagrams, and images to support your learning. It’s engaging and digestible enough for teenagers, yet challenging enough for medical professionals to feel compelled to expand our horizons.

I don’t know why I am here, but I feel like you have something to teach me?

This reflection has turned up in my inbox so many times. You’re not alone!

The forward facing part of my work is science and physiology. I help people expand their vocabulary to include the basics of neurology so they can deconstruct stress/anxiety/trauma. But the truth is, these are just gateway drugs to a deeper experiment I am conducting.

I believe we are underachieving—that our brains are working suboptimally. Western meditation practices are trying to help us expand our capabilities, but there’s still something missing. There’s a gap.

It turns out that unanswered questions in the West have curious answers in the East. For example: Our ears are capable of perceiving almost 1,500 separate sounds, but in the West we listen to music that falls only within 7 ¼ octaves (that’s just 58 sounds). If you listen to eastern microtonal instruments, you’ll immediately recognize what we’re missing. As I’ve learned to play the saz (not fluently), guzcheng, and ehru (kind of) it’s been fascinating to relax into “new” sounds. This same “gap” exists in the brain, breath, and body connection. The equation I developed helped me better define this gap—and understand how to close it.

The connection, or pattern, among the brain, breath, and connection is only the beginning. Patterns exist in every system—from the bees, to the worms, to how many plants fruit, to people. Since 2011, I’ve been taking intentional note of these patterns, as well as the archetypal patterns of humanity. (Archetypes have ancient origins and have been spun lightly in our last century by Carl Jung and Carolynn Myss). Studying archetypes creates a blueprint of the forces of enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm defined by Webster is “possession by God.” I like to consider it the force of life that flows into you when you are timeless, not hungry, insatiably present in the thing you are doing. Italian artisans had another word for it—genius—and described it as the muse that lived within the walls of the studio and who would occasionally embody the artist who would show up and do the work consistently.

My theory is that by both mastering the rhythms of the brain, breath and body and building our archetypal blueprint, we can stop “losing energy” and access the grander abilities we actually possess. If even a percentage of humanity had these tools, we would have problem solvers, creative thinkers, inventors, athletes with full focus, artists with infinite access to their imaginative capacities, business owners navigating their stress like professional sailors on the winds of life. This is the world I am trying to construct for the future generations. Please join me.
